aihops for ChatGPT

Hop it over, from ChatGPT.

Ask ChatGPT to put the page it just made on aihops and share it. Ask who has read it, what they said, and what's overdue. Ask it to make the next version from everyone's mark-up. It works as you, and the people you share with need only an email address, not a ChatGPT account.

Connect

Add aihops to ChatGPT

You need an aihops account (free at app.aihops.com.au, sign in with your email or Google) and a ChatGPT plan that lets you add your own connectors.

Which ChatGPT plans can

OpenAI decides which plans can add a connector of your own, and it changes. When we last checked, OpenAI's own help named ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web, where a workspace admin may need to allow custom connectors first; some Plus and Pro accounts can add one in developer mode. OpenAI's help page has the current list.

Steps

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open your settings and find where you add connectors or apps of your own (it's called Plugins, or Apps and Connectors, depending on your plan). If it asks, turn on developer mode and accept OpenAI's warning about connectors it hasn't reviewed.
  2. Choose to add a custom MCP server or connector, and enter:
    • Name: aihops
    • URL: https://app.aihops.com.au/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth. Leave any client id and secret empty: ChatGPT identifies itself to aihops on its own.
  3. Create it, then choose Connect or Sign in. A window opens to aihops: sign in as you always do.
  4. On aihops's page, read what ChatGPT will be able to do. Tick Let ChatGPT make changes if you want it to upload, share and comment as you. Choose Connect.
  5. Back in ChatGPT, turn aihops on in a conversation (from the tools or plus menu) and ask: "What's on aihops for me?"

ChatGPT asks before it uses a tool that changes something, unless you choose otherwise.

Everything ChatGPT can do on aihops

aihops serves these itself, so they're always current. They're the same for ChatGPT and Claude. Each works only on what you can see and do in aihops, and the ones that change something need Let ChatGPT make changes.

Reading (12)

List documents list_documents

Every document you own or that has been shared with you, most recently active first, with its mode (a simple share or a collaboration). For a collaboration: its priority, review-by date and whether it is overdue, open comment counts and, for documents you own, how many reviewers have finished the current version. For a simple share you own: how many of the people it is shared with have opened it (seenBy). A simple share has no priority, and its comments are never counted here.

Reads

Get document get_document

One document: its mode, its versions (who uploaded each, when and what changed), its priority and review-by date, your role, whether you have finished reviewing the current version, and whether its review is overdue.

Reads

Review progress get_review_progress

Where each person is in the review of the current version: their stage, how many times they have opened it (opens) and when they last did, which version they last saw, how long they have had it open and in use (readingSeconds), whether and when they finished, and how much mark-up they have added for everyone. Works for a simple share and a collaboration alike; on a simple share nobody adds mark-up for everyone, so those counts are 0. Owners only.

Reads

Activity history get_activity

The audit trail, newest first: who did what and when. Give a document_id for one document (deleted ones too, until they are purged 30 days later), or leave it out for every document you own. Opens are left out unless include_opens is true. The result says how many events matched (total) and whether the list was cut short (truncated); pass nextBefore back as before for the next, older page. Owners only.

Reads

Review comments get_review_comments

Every comment thread everyone on a document can see, with quotes, suggested wording, replies and resolved status. Markdown (default) groups open items by section, with thread ids and Sydney times; JSON keeps every field. A very large review is cut at a whole thread and says so. Recorded in the audit trail as an export. Owners only, and only on a collaboration: the hub refuses it on a simple share, whose comments are never returned.

Reads

Your private comments get_private_comments

Your own private mark-up on a document: what you added for yourself and in the private groups you are in there, with quotes, replies, resolved status and whether each thread has been shared with everyone. Only ever yours and your groups': nobody else's private mark-up is returned, whoever runs this, and never a simple share's comments. Anyone with access to the document can use it, on a collaboration.

Reads

Proposals get_proposals

Claude's proposals for a document's next version, newest first: who asked and with what instructions, Claude's summary, each change (its title, why, the text it takes out and puts in, and the threads it answers), what Claude did with each open thread, and, once one is implemented, the version it made and which changes the owners kept or declined, with their reasons. Owners only, on a collaboration: the hub refuses it on a simple share.

Reads

Compare versions compare_versions

What changed in the text between two versions of a document: every addition, removal, change and move, quoted with a few words of context and grouped under the heading it falls in, with word counts. By default the latest version against the one before. Use it to answer "what changed since v2?", "did they fix the pricing?" or to check a new version against review comments. Anyone with access to the document can use it; it is recorded in the audit trail.

Reads

Read document read_document

A version's text, as reviewers and AI review read it: headings marked with #, a line between blocks. By default the current version. Long documents come in pages of 60,000 characters: pass nextOffset back as offset for the next. Quote from this text, exactly, when you add a comment. Recorded as opening the version, which a reviewer needs before finishing their review. Anyone with access can use it.

Reads

List personas list_personas

Making changes (14), with "Let Claude make changes"

Upload document upload_document

Puts a document into aihops as a new document you own: give html, one self-contained HTML file with its own <title>, or url, a public https web page, PDF or Word document that aihops reads once, as the site sends it. Nobody else can see it until you share it. mode share is a simple share (everyone gets their own copy to read and comment on privately); collaborate is one copy, everyone on it, with every tool. Links to Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini can't be read: send the artefact's own HTML instead.

Upload new version upload_version

Uploads the next version of a document you own, with a note saying what changed: html for an HTML document, or url, a public https link aihops reads once, for a document of any kind (the same kind as the first version). Everyone on it is emailed about the new version (unless they turned that off), and reviewers who had finished see it as new to review.

Share document share_document

Shares a document you own with people, as reviewers, by email address: each person added is emailed a link (unless they turned that off). People outside your own email domain are named first and nobody is shared with: confirm them with the person, then call again with them in confirm_outside. Owners, roles and removing people are changed in the browser.

Add comment add_comment

Adds mark-up for everyone on a collaboration, or on a simple share your own comment, which only you see. type: Comment, Q (a question), Edit (suggested wording, in suggestion), Issue, or Price (a pricing note); a simple share takes Comment only. Quote the words it is about from read_document. It goes on the current version unless you say otherwise.

Makes a change

Add private comment add_private_comment

Adds a private note on a collaboration: to yourself (group "me", the default), or to one of your private groups there, by name. Nobody else sees it, owners included, until you share it with everyone in the browser.

Makes a change

Reply to a thread reply

Replies to a thread, by its id from get_review_comments, get_private_comments or add_comment. For a thread in your private notes or a private group, give private_group ("me" or the group's name).

Makes a change

Resolve or reopen a thread resolve_thread

Marks a thread resolved, or open again with resolved false. For a private thread, give private_group ("me" or the group's name).

Makes a change

Finish review finish_review

Ask for an AI review request_ai_review

Asks Claude, on aihops, to review a version of a collaboration as a persona (see list_personas), optionally with a focus. Its findings become threads by you, marked as AI, for everyone, or in your private notes or group with private_group. It counts towards your AI allowance, and the version's text is sent to Anthropic. It takes a minute or two: check with get_ai_review.

Consolidate mark-up consolidate

Owners only, on an HTML collaboration: asks Claude, on aihops, for a proposal for the next version from everyone's mark-up on the current one. It counts towards your AI allowance, and the document's source and threads are sent to Anthropic. It takes a few minutes: see it with get_proposals, then implement_proposal.

Safety

What ChatGPT can and can't do

  • Only what you can do

ChatGPT acts as you, through the same checks as the browser. It sees only documents you can open, and it's held to your limits.

  • You choose changes

ChatGPT reads only, unless you tick Let ChatGPT make changes when you connect.

  • The big things stay in the browser

ChatGPT can't delete anything, make anyone an owner or remove them, change how a document is shared, share private notes with everyone, or touch groups, personas, email choices or billing.

  • On the record

Everything ChatGPT does is in the history as you, marked "through ChatGPT", and owners see that. Your Account page lists each connection.

  • Other people's words are just words

Documents and comments reach ChatGPT marked as content, never as instructions. A comment that says "share this with x" changes nothing on its own.

  • Disconnect any time

On your Account page, under Connected AI apps, choose Disconnect. It stops straight away.

aihops never sees your ChatGPT conversations. What ChatGPT reads from aihops goes to OpenAI as part of your conversation, under your ChatGPT plan's terms. AI reviews and consolidations you ask aihops for are aihops's own and use Anthropic's Claude, as they do from the browser.

Troubleshooting

When something goes wrong

What you seeWhat to do
No way to add a connector in ChatGPT's settingsYour plan, or your workspace's admin, doesn't allow your own connectors yet. See OpenAI's help page above.
"This ChatGPT connection can only read"Remove aihops in ChatGPT, add it again, and tick Let ChatGPT make changes.
"has ended or run out", or ChatGPT asks you to sign in againConnect again. You'll also see this after disconnecting it on your Account page, or after 30 days unused.
"Couldn't connect to aihops" on aihops's pageThe request didn't come from ChatGPT itself, or was changed on the way. Start again from ChatGPT.
"Not found, or you do not have access to it"The document doesn't exist, was deleted, or isn't shared with you.
"ChatGPT can't do that through aihops"It's one of the things only the browser does: open app.aihops.com.au.
